This exciting tour will introduce you to two fascinating carnivore families: Felidae (Felines) and Mustelidae (Mustelids). In this immersive experience, we’ll focus on some of the most elusive and beautiful creatures found at Toucan Rescue Ranch, including the Oncilla, Ocelot, Neotropical River Otter, Tayra, Greater Grisons, and more.

Join us for a 30-minute educational journey where you’ll learn everything about these incredible animals—their behaviors, habitats, and the important role they play in their ecosystems. Along the way, we’ll also show you the vital enrichment activities used at the Ranch to keep these animals mentally and physically stimulated, ensuring their well-being in captivity and preparing them for potential release into the wild.

Enrichment Activities in Action

Throughout the tour, we’ll also show you how we keep these carnivores physically and mentally engaged through enrichment activities.

Interactive Learning Moments: You’ll get to participate in fun quizzes and challenges, testing your knowledge of these amazing creatures and their behavior. Can you guess which carnivore has the longest tail? Or which one is known for its incredible agility and climbing skills?

By the end of the tour, you’ll have gained a deeper appreciation for these wild carnivores and the critical conservation work being done to protect them. Whether you’re a student, a teacher, or simply a wildlife enthusiast, this virtual field trip will provide you with fascinating insights into the world of felines and mustelids

Duration: 30 minutes (Includes an introduction to TRR, in-depth info on felines, and a 10-minute Q&A)

Feline Family – The Mysterious Cats

  • This small, wild cat is one of the most elusive felines in Central and South America. We’ll discuss its diet, nocturnal habits, and the conservation challenges it faces.

  • Known for its stunning coat pattern and solitary nature. You’ll also learn about the importance of preserving its habitat and the challenges of coexistence with humans.

Mustelid Marvels – The Sleek and Agile Carnivores

  • Meet the playful and curious otters that thrive in freshwater ecosystems. We’ll dive into their behavior, diet, and the role they play in maintaining the health of river ecosystems. Watch as we demonstrate enrichment activities designed to stimulate their hunting instincts and promote natural behaviors.
  • These formidable mustelids may look like small weasels, but they are known for their bold nature and powerful hunting skills. We’ll explore their behavior, their social structure, and how they use their sharp claws and teeth to capture prey. Enrichment activities like scent trails and foraging challenges help them express natural behaviors.
  • This agile mustelid is a highly adaptable omnivore, with a diet that includes fruits, small animals, and even insects. Learn about the Tayra’s role in its ecosystem and how it uses its dexterous paws to manipulate food and tools. We’ll show you how we enrich their environment with interactive toys and activities.
