Kisses is a small baby Tayra (part of the weasel family), who arrived at the Ranch scared, hurting, and stressed, after being attacked by a dog. Luckily, the dog’s owners heard the attack and rushed outside to step in. And thank goodness they did – because their quick thinking is what saved Kisses’ life.
They managed to pry open the dog’s jaws to free her, cleaned her up as best they could, and rushed to the TRR clinic where rescuers were anxiously waiting. Doctors immediately examined her for wounds; and thankfully, the dog’s jaws seemed to have missed any major arteries. However, x-rays and scans are still needed to be sure, and beyond this, Kisses is looking at months of recovery. She did have some ticks on her that were removed however, overall, she is a healthy tayra.
The good news, however, is that this baby girl is expected to make a FULL recovery. Despite being only 5 weeks old, Kisses is a survivor. – And a feisty one, at that! Rescuers tell us that – despite feeling a little worse for wear – this lil’ lady is as sassy and spunky as ever. And soon, she’ll be joining TRR’s Rehabilitation and Rewilding program to continue developing her natural behavior/instincts for when she is old enough to return home, #backinthetrees!
