The Sloth Becomes a National Symbol of Costa Rica: Did you hear?! This July, the Costa Rican government has announced that both the two-fingered and three-fingered sloths are now national symbols, and as a wildlife rescue center that specializes in sloths, we couldn’t be more excited!
The government has unanimously approved a project that will declare sloths as a national symbol. The aim is that this will promote the conservation of the species as well as their habitats. With this step, our hope is that fewer sloths will suffer from accidents we see every day, including logging, electrocutions, and habitat loss. The fewer sloths we have to save, the better.
This is definitely one small step for the sloth, one big step for conservation in Costa Rica!
Congratulations, sloths!
What can you do to celebrate this new achievement of the sloth? Well, by visiting them at our sanctuary, of course!
