April 29 is World Veterinary Day!
Every year, on the last Saturday of April, World Veterinary Day is celebrated to recognize the vital role of veterinarians in animal health, welfare, and public health. This year’s theme, “Promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness in the Veterinary Profession,” highlights the need for a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive veterinary workforce.
“We’re so happy to have such a big team working together at Toucan Rescue Ranch because many different opinions lead us to a better diagnosis and better outcomes for every case we have. It’s easier to handle every case when we have so many different inputs from people that have knowledge in different areas.”

At Toucan Rescue Ranch, we are incredibly grateful for our team of dedicated veterinarians, who play a critical role in caring for and rehabilitating the wildlife in our rescue center. Our vet team works tirelessly to provide medical care, surgeries, and treatments for various animals, from sloths and monkeys to birds and reptiles.
Without our vet team, we could not provide the level of care and attention that our animals need to recover and thrive. Our vets are highly skilled, knowledgeable, compassionate, and empathetic, which is essential in our work with wildlife that have often suffered trauma, injury, or illness.
Our vet team works closely with our animal care support staff and volunteers to develop individualized treatment plans for each animal, considering their unique needs and conditions. They also collaborate with other experts in the field, such as wildlife biologists, nutritionists, and behaviorists, to ensure that our animals receive the best possible care.
“I have the pleasure of working with a wide variety of vets over here at TRR. By having such a variety and diversity, we get a lot of different opinions and we can share ideas within our team and to be able to produce the best effective results depending on the different areas of expertise that members of our VET staff have”. We are proud to have a diverse and inclusive team of veterinarians at Toucan Rescue Ranch who come from different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. This diversity enriches our organization and helps us better understand and meet the needs of the animals we serve.
“One of our main goals for this year is to focus a lot on research. We’ve been doing a lot of rescues and rehab for many years, so we have a lot of information to sit down and write scientific papers”.

As we celebrate World Veterinary Day 2023, we want to express our gratitude for our vet team and their fantastic work. Thank you!
