Happy International Sloth Day!

Today is the day – Happy International Sloth Day!

Tune in to the 8th Annual Sloth Ironman Games on YouTube and Facebook TODAY at 1 PM as four young competitors are announced in the Sloth Athlete Reveal! They have been training and are ready to showcase their wild, athletic abilities to the world!

A new event will be released each day, with the fun wrapping up on October 25th for the LIVE Championship Ceremony–you don’t want to miss this.

Note: the 2023 Sloth Ironman Games will NOT be streaming on IGTV this year. The only platforms you will be able to view the Games will be YouTube and Facebook.

New to the event? Let us fill you in!

The Sloth Ironman Games is an online fundraising event that Toucan Rescue Ranch hosts every year to raise money for Saving Sloths Together, our sloth rescue, rehabilitation, and rewilding program. To commemorate the 8th year of hosting this event, we have upped our fundraising goal to $8,000! This is a monumental target, but we know we can reach it with the help of our dedicated supporters! All proceeds from this fundraiser will help us to provide medical treatment, proper diets, enrichment, enclosure enhancements, emergency care, and more for the sloths in our care!

The Game Schedule (starting at 1:00 PM Costa Rica time):

  • Oct 20: Sloth Athlete Reveal
  • Oct 21: 1-Meter Dash
  • Oct 22: Hibiscus Eat-Off
  • Oct 22: Half-Time Show
  • Oct 23: Strong Sloth Competition
  • Oct 24: Poop-Off Challenge
  • Oct 25: Championship Ceremony

SLOTH IRONMAN POINT-SYSTEM:

Each donation is one vote toward your favorite sloth! So a $1 donation is one extra point for your favorite slothlete!

EACH EVENT WON BY A SLOTH ATHLETE:

  • 100-points for 1st place
  • 75-points for 2nd place
  • 50-points for 3rd pace
  • 25 points for 4th place
  • 0-points for disqualification

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Everything that you will see the sloths doing is entirely natural and part of their everyday behavior. Our Vet Team is always present; everything filmed is part of their rehabilitation process and is meant to prepare them for their lives in the wild.
